Halloween is just around the corner but, sadly, social distancing is likely to put a dampener on all things "trick or treating" this year.  If you’re a fan of the spook-tacular celebrations, we’ve put together some fun ideas of how to have a COVID-safe Halloween and still enjoy trick or treating in a socially distanced way.  (Please note, ideas were provided in line with guidance available at the time of writing, any future government guidance should be adhered to.)

First, some guidelines:

• You shouldn’t be trick-or-treating with anyone outside of your household
• Make sure to avoid elderly and vulnerable neighbours
• Chat with your neighbours in advance to let them know you’re planning on trick-or-treating and make a plan
• Keep to the “Rule of 6”
• Sweets are best if they’re individually wrapped
• Wash hands, make space and keep your face covered

Bells and Bowls

If you love to see all the costumes and want to get involved, safely, in your community – why not rig up a bell at the end of your drive or front garden.  Pop a bowl of sweets there for the kids to take one and a bell for them to ring to let you know.  You can pop your head out of your door to say “hi” and congratulate the children on their excellent costumes, maintaining the 2m+ rule. 

Make a Spooky Mask

Face coverings are part of our daily lives at the moment, so why not make the most of it with a spooky mask.  Make sure it covers your mouth and nose, and have fun with the choices!

Pre-package the sweets

Kids rummaging in bowls may increase transmission risk so, instead, you could create Halloween party-bags for the children to take.  This would reduce the number of sticky fingers touching the sweets.

Have a Halloween “Party” on video call

Not wanting to go outside or risk traditional trick-or-treating?  Not to worry!  A video Halloween party with a costume competition can still be a great way to enjoy all the fun.  You could even send the winner a little prize in the post, or a e-voucher for a spooky movie to enjoy. 

Pumpkin Fun

Pumpkin carving is a Halloween staple – why not involve your neighbours and get the whole street involved?  Pop candles inside and create a fabulous trail for the children to enjoy – a treat for everyone,rolex replica even if there’s no sweets involved!
